Editorial Standards

USA Times is an independent digital publication covering cinema, box-office economics, technology, and public policy. Our work combines original reporting with data journalism — including the proprietary USA Times Event-Movie Index, a twenty-year database of American box-office concentration. This page explains how we work and how to hold us accountable.

Ownership and editorial independence

USA Times is owned and operated by its editorial team and led by Executive Editor Achir Kalra. We maintain full editorial independence. Advertising and affiliate relationships never influence our reporting, analysis, or the conclusions of our data work, and sponsored material is always clearly labeled as such.

Sourcing and accuracy

We build our reporting on primary sources: government records, court filings, company disclosures, and established industry data providers such as Box Office Mojo and The Numbers for box-office figures. Where we present original analysis, we describe our method and thresholds openly so readers can evaluate — and challenge — our numbers. Every statistic in our data features is traceable to a named source.

Our data methodology

The USA Times Event-Movie Index measures each week’s number-one film as a share of the entire U.S. box office, classifying films into golden-ratio tiers and requiring a $61.8 million worldwide floor to qualify. Our full definitions, thresholds, and the reasoning behind them are published openly and updated as the data grows. We would rather show our work than ask for trust.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and transparently. If you believe something we have published is inaccurate, please use our correction-request form or email the editor. Substantive corrections are noted on the article itself.

Use of technology

We use software tools, including data-processing and drafting assistants, to help compile and visualize large datasets. All published work is reviewed under human editorial oversight, and responsibility for accuracy rests with our editors.
